Overview

            The Sociology Dept. of Loyola College, Thiruvananthapuram has been a forerunner in promoting the discipline in Kerala since its inception in 1963. The early masters of this Department were instrumental in the formation of the Kerala Sociological Society and in the formulation and conduct of various research undertakings and acivities of various Governmental and non-Governmental bodies in the State. The department has received meritorious citation by the peer team for its research contributions and publications during the recent NAAC re accreditation process. This has been instrumental for the college for achieving an A grade with an high score of 3.7 on a 4 point scale.
            In spite of this unique heritage and meritorious citations, the Department has actively considered the various recommendations by the NAAC Peer Team for furthering the development of this department to further excellence by capitalising on opportunities for future growth. The department resolves to operationalise a perspective plan embedded in its re-focussed vision, in order to meet the requirements of society over the next five years, by producing the kind of knowledge and expertise crucial for the development of the society
